Nancy Riedell
Watercolorist
I am a watercolor artist from Santa Cruz, California. I graduated from San Francisco State University where I studied Fine Arts. Classes included figure drawing, color values, acrylics, oils, and art history. My love of art goes back to childhood as my family encouraged me to develop my skills by giving me art materials and art books.
My current medium is watercolor. The bold use of colors and interesting landscapes has played a strong role in my work. Although I have been working with art since childhood, it is only within the last few years that I have felt the passion to get back into it. I hope that my passion for art is reflected by the use of strong, saturated color and theme.
In the last few years, I have studied under the following artists:
-
Terry Hogan whose landscape watercolors have been exhibited nationally and abroad. Most recently, Ms. Hogan had her work exhibited at The William Sawyer Gallery in San Francisco.
-
Sue C. Dirksen who has exhibited in over 50 exhibitions in the United States and Europe. Ms. Dirksen’s acrylic work is currently exhibited at UCLA. She has sold paintings to dignitaries and Hollywood celebrities such as Harrison Ford and Penelope Cruz.
-
Elizabeth Kincaid, a published author, who works in a realistic style that is strongly graphic and impressionistic and builds her watercolors from many thin glazes of color. She is the author of an instructional book, "Paint Watercolors That Dance With Light."
-
Jan Hart, who is a contributing watercolorist and writer for the newsletter of Daniel Smith Art Materials in Seattle, Washington. Ms. Hart is the author of her newly-released instructional book, "A Watercolor Artist's Guide to Exceptional Color."
I am a member of the Santa Cruz Art League, the Santa Cruz Watercolor Society, the California Watercolor Association, and a recent member of the Bethlehem (PA) Palette Club. I joined this art group because I have family who recently moved to Bethlehem and I intend to visit them a lot.
Enjoy!
